Heating Plant

The Williams College Central Heating Plant is a Combined Heat and Power plant that supplies steam for comfort heating, cooking, humidification for WCMA and the Sciences, as well as domestic hot water, to approximately 90% of the College Campus.  During the heating season (October to April) the Plant produces approximately 45% of the electricity, as a by-product of central heating, consumed by the Central Campus.  This reduces the amount of electricity normally consumed by the GRID.  For every kilowatt of electricity produced on site, we reduce our CO2 output by 0.846 pounds.  The plant is under the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and is manned and operated by Licensed State Engineers as full time employees.
