Partial Shutdown During Winter Break

The College is pleased to partially shut down during this time of year for a period of restoration and relaxation.

Most administrative and support functions will be suspended from Monday, December 21, 2020 through Monday, January 4, 2021.  To the degree possible, buildings will remain accessible and heated to energy saving set points.

Administrative buildings will close at the end of the day Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, and will re-open on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.


  • Unplug it! unplug it

    Many electronics and appliances use electricity even when they’re turned off, so unplug computers,
    monitors, printers, cell phone chargers, TVs, DVD players, Play stations, etc.

    Research equipment: Turn off research equipment when possible.

    But not classroom equipment! Information Technology staff will turn off
    audio/visual/computer equipment in classrooms.

    Do some housekeeping mini-fridge

    Empty, defrost and unplug refrigerators and mini-fridges. Custodians will unplug all appliances, so remove perishable items and clean your refrigerator before the break to avoid any New Year’s surprises.

    Prevent heat loss window shade

    Lights, windows, curtains: Turn off lights, close windows and storm sashes, and shut curtains/blinds/shades to reduce heat loss through the glass.

    Labs: Close hood sashes where possible in both teaching and research spaces.

    Dress warmly

    In as many buildings as possible, temperatures will be turned down to conserve energy and reduce our carbon footprint. For specific spaces please reference the list found here.

    No space heaters: Personal space heaters are not allowed on campus during winter break.

    Conserve at Home, too

  • Winter Study instructors should not plan to preview their classrooms during the shutdown period as the lectern computers will be undergoing maintenance, and classroom buildings be closed.  If you need help with using the projection equipment in classrooms, setting up a Glow site for your course, or have other technology related questions, we strongly recommend that you contact media services or your ITech liaison as soon as possible, and prior to the shutdown. Adjuncts should contact the liaison for the course’s department sponsor. For urgent questions, email the ITech list at [email protected]. This address will be monitored periodically over the break.

    OIT will resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Have a good break.

  • From Monday, December 21, 2020 thru Wednesday, January  6, 2021 the college campus will be closed and will not accept any deliveries from USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, and DHL.

    With the following exceptions:

    • Campus Safety & Security will accept deliveries for Hopkins Hall or 75 Park St.(Office of College Relations) ONLY throughout the entire shutdown period from UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.
    • College departments with P.O. box addresses and Alumni Fund/College Relations staff can pick up their mail at the Post Office during regular business hours.  College I.D. will be required.

    Jessica Park Mail Room
    The student mail room closes at the end of the day (1:00 p.m.) Friday, Dec. 18, and regular window service resumes to normal hours on Wednesday, Jan. 6 (9:00 a.m.). The mail room will also be open on December 22nd and December 29th from 9 am - 1 pm for student pick -up.<

    Student Residences
    Student residences close at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, for Winter break.  Only those students who have been approved by OCL are allowed to remain on campus beyond December 22 for the break. Student residences will re-open on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.  Students may return to campus per their scheduled appointment time slot between February 10 and February 14.  Students will be able to start reserving spring arrival time slots in January.
