Partial Shutdown During Winter Break

Most administrative and support functions will be suspended from Thursday, December 23, 2021 through Sunday, January 2, 2022.  To the degree possible, buildings will remain accessible and heated to energy saving set points.

Administrative buildings will close at the end of the day Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, and will re-open on Monday, January 3, 2022.


  • Unplug it! unplug it

    Many electronics and appliances use electricity even when they’re turned off, so unplug computers,
    monitors, printers, cell phone chargers, TVs, DVD players, Play stations, etc.

    Research equipment: Turn off research equipment when possible.

    But not classroom equipment! Information Technology staff will turn off
    audio/visual/computer equipment in classrooms.

    Do some housekeeping mini-fridge

    Empty, defrost and unplug refrigerators and mini-fridges. Custodians will unplug all appliances, so remove perishable items and clean your refrigerator before the break to avoid any New Year’s surprises.

    Prevent heat loss window shade

    Lights, windows, curtains: Turn off lights, close windows and storm sashes, and shut curtains/blinds/shades to reduce heat loss through the glass.

    Labs: Close hood sashes where possible in both teaching and research spaces.

    Dress warmly

    In as many buildings as possible, temperatures will be turned down to conserve energy and reduce our carbon footprint. For specific spaces please reference the list found here.

    No space heaters: Personal space heaters are not allowed on campus during winter break.

    Conserve at Home, too

  • If you need help with using the projection equipment in classrooms, setting up a Glow site for your course, or have other technology related questions, please stop by the Zoom drop-in room, or contact your   ITech liaison as soon as possible  prior to the Winter break. Note that classrooms won't be accessible over the break. Adjuncts can contact the liaison for the course’s department sponsor. For urgent questions over the break, email the ITech list at [email protected]. This address will be monitored periodically.

    If you need other technology support over the break send email to [email protected] . If you are unable to email, use the help-desk web form at or you can call 413-597-4090 and leave a message. Email and messages will be checked daily.

    OIT will resume normal operations on Monday, January 3, 2022. Have a good break.

  • From Thursday, December 23, 2021 thru Sunday, January  2, 2022 the college campus will be closed and will not accept any deliveries from USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, and DHL.

    With the following exceptions:

    • Campus Safety & Security will accept deliveries for Hopkins Hall or 75 Park St.(Office of College Relations) ONLY throughout the entire shutdown period from UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.
    • College departments with P.O. box addresses and Alumni Fund/College Relations staff can pick up their mail at the Post Office during regular business hours.  College I.D. will be required.

    Jessica Park Mail Room
    The student mail room closes at the end of the day (3:00 p.m.) Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021 and regular window service resumes on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022  at (12:00 p.m.).

    Student Residences
    Student residences close at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, for Winter break.  Only those students who have been approved by OCL are allowed to remain on campus beyond December 21 for the break. Student residences will re-open on Saturday, January 1, 2022.
    Thompson Health & Wellness Center
    Thompson will be closed during the academic break except as indicated on their website
    Athletic Facilities
    Towne Field House Testing site is closing on 12/16/21 12pm and moving on Friday, 12/17/21.  Will reopen Monday, 1/3/22
    Samuelson/Muir Pool CLOSED Monday 12/20.   Will reopen Monday, 1/3/22.
    Check Wet Line for hours (413.597.2419) /Note:  the swim team will be using the pool starting on 12/28/21
    Lasell Gym & Chandler Gym

    CLOSED Wednesday, 12/15 for floor refinishing. Reopens on 1/3/22

    Note: Chandler Gym will be used by men's basketball on 12/26 & 12/27 as they return early for their basketball schedule. They'll be out of town starting 12/27 and come back on 12/31/21.

    Note: wrestling room off Lasell Gym will be used by the wrestling team starting 12/27/21.

    Lansing Chapman Rink

    CLOSES Wednesday, 12/22 (3:00 p.m.) Note: Reopens for varsity team the night of 12/27/21. Reopens to the rest of campus 1/3/22.

    Check Ice Line for hours (597-2433).

    Lasell Fitness Center & Simon Squash Courts

    Closes Wednesday, 12/22/21 at 6pm. Reopens 1/3/22.

    Note: squash team returns 12/29/21 and will use squash facility
